Back on April 17th, Shad spoke with myself and CiCi Ross while on tour in Philadelphia. We chopped it up about his recent hometown show in London, Ontario, the impact of Detroit’s music scene, freestyling with Janelle Monáe, performing at the CBC Hip Hop Summit, advice to up and coming artists, the challenges of touring in the U.S., plans for another album, the making of Lucky 1’s, and more.
If you aren’t up on Shad’s music, be sure to check out tracks like Rose Garden, Keep Shining and 6 Minutes HERE.
On April 1st, Miss Lady Soul and I held a special edition of GREEN LIGHT, our monthly party at Sava’s State Street Café. April’s GREEN LIGHT doubled as my birthday party and the mixtape launch for Treats Volume 1.
To celebrate the occasion, we had Tommey Walker’s artwork on full display in the entrance, as well as custom made treats from Cupcake Station. Towards the end of the night, we gave out advance copies of TV1 and served slices from this huge b-day cake (thanks Sis!)
This night would not have been possible without the incredible staff of Sava’s, and the dedication of the GREEN LIGHT team. Much love to Carlita and E, and thank you to all the friends and family who came out to support!
*Note – April 1st’s GREEN LIGHT was the only place physical copies of the mixtape were available. For a free download of Treats Volume 1, head over to treats.djteddyruckspin.com
